Increased Precautions We're Taking in Response to the Coronavirus
As updates on the impact of the coronavirus continue to be released, we want to take a moment to inform you of the heightened preventative measures we have put in place at Detroit Behavioral Institute & Capstone Academy to keep our patients, their families, and our employees safe. All efforts are guided by and in adherence to the recommendations distributed by the CDC.

  • This restriction has been implemented in compliance with updated corporate and state regulations to further reduce the risks associated with COVID-19.
  • We are offering visitation through telehealth services so that our patients can remain connected to their loved ones.
  • Alternate methods of communication for other services are being vetted and may be offered when deemed clinically appropriate.

For specific information regarding these changes and limitations, please contact us directly.

CDC updates are consistently monitored to ensure that all guidance followed is based on the latest information released.

Capstone Academy Programs

At Capstone Academy, we strive to help our students grow on an academic and interpersonal level so that they can realize and achieve the bright and happy future that awaits them.

Foundation of Capstone Academy

With two locations situated on the same campus as Detroit Behavioral Institute, Capstone Academy is a provider of education services that was founded on the belief that all youth have the ability to learn and further their education when they are provided a nurturing and challenging environment. Since its inception in the fall of 2012 when it was approved by the Detroit Public Schools Office of Charter Schools, Capstone Academy has been providing a specialized environment for learning that meets the needs of each and every student who matriculates through each of our beneficial programs.

Who We Treat

A strict discipline academy where expectations are high and support is bountiful, Capstone Academy provides education services for male and female adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 who have not been successful in furthering their education within traditional academic settings. By working collaboratively with other agencies, including Detroit Behavioral Institute, we are able to be part of a youth’s continuum of care by providing a stable academic setting for learning while a young person receives invaluable mental health care that treats behavioral, emotional, and/or cognitive disturbances.

Individualized Curriculum & Programming

Each youth who attends Capstone Academy receives an individualized curriculum that is meant to identify existing strengths to build upon, challenge academic prowess, and foster the development of new skills and knowledge. This curriculum also outlines which of our programs a youth will partake in while enrolled at Capstone. The following are a few of the specialized programs offered at our school:

  • Afterschool Programming
  • Enrichment
  • Life Skills Program
  • Project-Based Learning
  • STEM Onsite Events
  • STEM Career Exploration
  • Visual Arts
