Other Disorders We Treat

We, at Detroit Behavioral Institute – Capstone Academy, recognize that comprehensive care means offering treatment for a myriad of mental health conditions. Many young people often struggle with more than one mental illness and require care for said illnesses so that any and all concerns pertaining to a youth’s mental health can be addressed. We believe that treatment is a life-long commitment, which is why we are pleased to provide youth with care that fosters the development of skills that can leave a positive and lasting impact on all who entrust us with their care.

Our evidence-based assessment tools, treatment modalities, and therapeutic techniques are implemented and utilized so that any apparent and underlying concerns can be identified and treated in the most effective manner possible. Through the use of individual, family, group, and experiential therapies, we are able to ensure that each young person engaged in our programming will have successful treatment outcomes.

Each unit at our center is uniquely equipped to care for adjudicated and non-adjudicated youth who are struggling with behavioral, emotional, and/or cognitive disturbances. Furthermore, our qualified staff of mental health professionals is adept at recognizing any disturbances that could be present and contributing to maladaptive behaviors that have occurred or are occurring. These professionals are also trained to deliver care for any existing mental health disorders and co-occurring conditions, of which can include the following:

  • Intellectual Disability
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Self-Harm
  • Grief and Loss
  • Suicidal Ideation

Treatment for these conditions is factored into each youth’s individualized treatment plan. This plan, of which is formulated at admission and can be adjusted during the therapeutic process in order to meet the needs of each young person, is devised by our staff of psychiatrists, therapists, social workers and other relevant professionals who facilitate care with the utmost compassion when working with youth in our care. Additionally, this plan is meant to incorporate the skills and tools needed to overcome even the most debilitating symptoms of any mental health disorders that could be afflicting a young person.
